Can anyone guarantee your sales? The honest answer: no, and that is good news

No honest agency guarantees sales. What performance marketing can actually promise, the five questions to ask, and a game that shows the full equation.

The question that reaches me most often, in different shapes, is always the same question:

“If I pay you, what do you guarantee? How much of it comes back as sales?”

And it is a completely fair question. Whoever pays has the right to know what the money buys. The problem is not the question. The problem is the answer most people get.

Why can nobody guarantee? Because the ad is not the whole equation

Let me say it plainly: a sale does not happen from the ad alone. The ad does exactly one job, it brings the right person to your door. What happens after the door is what decides:

  • The product itself: worth the price or not?
  • The offer: why buy from you and not the shop next door?
  • Trust: who vouched for you? What do the reviews say?
  • The page or account: where does the click land? On something that sells, or something that confuses?
  • The reply: the customer asked. Who answered, and how much later?
  • Competitors: what is on display around you at that same moment?

Any one of these can kill an excellent campaign single-handedly. And most of them are not even in the marketing company’s hands. They are in yours.

One more: even a company with a full in-house marketing team cannot guarantee an absolute result for itself. So how does someone who met you once promise you one?

Try it yourself: the ad is excellent, the rest is on you

I built a small game that makes the point better than a thousand sentences. Inside it there is an ad that is excellent and locked: a guaranteed thousand clicks you cannot touch. All you can move is the rest of the equation.

Try putting everything low and see how many sales come out of a thousand clicks. Then raise one factor at a time. And notice one thing: the equation multiplies, it does not add. One dead factor kills the whole result even when everything else is a ten out of ten.

The Sales Equation

Our ad is excellent and locked: a guaranteed thousand clicks. Move the other factors and watch who actually decides how many sales come out of the same thousand.

Numbers are illustrative to show the shape of the relationship (multiplication, not addition), not a forecast for your project. That comes out of a diagnosis.

What performance marketing can actually guarantee

This is the difference between someone selling you a promise and someone working with you properly.

What can be guaranteed is the method. That is what performance marketing means when it is done honestly: your budget is never spent on guessing. Research before execution, small tests before the big budget, numbers read every week, and decisions that change based on what the numbers say. Stop what loses, scale what wins.

That can be guaranteed because it is in the hands of whoever does the work. “I will bring you a hundred customers a month” is a promise about something half outside their hands, in a market they probably have not studied yet.

Five questions for anyone promising you a result

  1. "What did you base this promise on?"

If the answer includes no study of your market, offer and competitors, the promise is a number thrown in the air. The same number the client before you was promised.

  2. "What do you measure, and what do you show me weekly?"

Whoever guarantees sales but cannot explain how they are counted has a problem with either arithmetic or honesty.

  3. "What happens if month one misses?"

The honest answer contains "we analyse and adjust". The suspicious one contains a contract extension and a speech about patience.

  4. "What needs to be ready on my side?"

Whoever understands will talk about your page, your reply speed and your offer before talking about their ads. Whoever never asks is planning to blame them when results stall.

  5. "Why would this number work for me specifically?"

Every project is different: budget, audience, market, stage. Whoever presents other people's results as your guarantee is selling you someone else's story.

And me? I say it in the first session

I do not guarantee you sales. Nobody honest can.

What I do guarantee: a diagnosis before any execution, numbers that reach you instead of being hidden from you, and decisions built on measurement instead of feeling. Even my packages say it right underneath, in plain words: no package guarantees sales.

And if you are still torn between “a company that promises” and “a company that studies”, read Two kinds of marketing companies. It will save you the next comparison.

What matters in the end is not who promised you more. It is who understood your problem deeper.
